Artist Statement: Before the new writes over the old, I pressed my brush to canvas and said: not yet.

The top, HDB blocks with laundry swaying like flags on bamboo. Below them, Peranakan houses, coloured like sweets from a childhood I can still taste. Then the television test bars, that quiet goodbye flicker, signalling it was time to rest, the whole island dreaming together. And finally, the orange rooftops of boat quay flowing into Haji Lane, glowing like embers before the wind changes.

This painting is not a protest. It is a lullaby for places that raised us. A thank you note written in acrylic before the renovation trucks arrive.

Some memories are too tender to keep only for myself. This painting is my way of saying: what raised me will always matter. Before the cranes arrive, before the facades change, I have already chosen to remember. And in remembering, I have already let these places live forever.

TOGETHER - Art Exhibition in support of the President’s Challenge 2026

This is the third edition of the largest fund-raising exhibition by Singaporean artists for beneficiaries supported by the President's Challenge (PC). President's Challenge 2026 will support 121 programmes across 60 organisations to drive sustained social upliftment in Singapore.

50% of all sales proceeds will be donated to the President's Challenge; tax deductions will be available where applicable. Donors will be invited to the "Donor Appreciation Ceremony" to receive a certificate of appreciation from the Guest-of-Honour.
