In this painting, local artist Lee Soon Heng 李巡兴 takes a contemporary approach to traditional Chinese ink painting. While there are the typical elements such as lotus flower, bird and fish, he introduces an unique modern marbling technique in the background, instead of the usual white space 留白.

Lee Soon Heng is a graduate of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and a member of Siaw-Tao Chinese Seal Carving Calligraphy & Painting Society. He teaches Chinese ink painting and Chinese calligraphy at many MOE schools and also conducts workshops for adults.
