Hwang Fwee Yuh 黄翡玉 was born in China and arrived in Malaya at the age of 8. She graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1971 and initially pursued oil painting. She was drawn to and learned Chinese ink painting from renowned second generation Singaporean artist Mr. Lim Kay Hiong, and calligraphy from Prof. Tan Siah Kwee. Fwee Yuh is a member of the Chinese Calligraphy Society of Singapore, NAFA Alumni Association, and the Society of Chinese Artists Singapore.
In Chinese culture, the rooster symbolizes courage, vigilance, integrity, and prosperity. This Chinese ink painting celebrates companionship, healthy rivalry and vigor through bold brush strokes.
